Aloys Schmitt was born on August 26, 1788. We celebrate his contributions to music education on his birthday. At Amy's Studio, Schmitt's Preparatory Studies are one of our "super vegetables" as beginners transition to intermediate studies.

As a boy, Aloys' first teacher was his father. Later, he was taught by G.J. Voilweiler and Philipp Carl Hoffmann while living in the home of his teacher, Johann Anton Andre. In 1806 Schmitt furthered his studies in Frankfurt and worked on his first compositions. His first public performance, as a pianist, was also in Frankfurt on March 23, 1810.

While living, Schmitt was a respected teacher with a solid legacy. He chose to suspend his performances to focus on developing his teaching method. His Son, Georg Aloys Schmitt is the primary composer responsible for a completed version of the Mozart Great Mass, KV 427/417a.
